Lily for Chanel

I would be the first to say I never know quite how to take Lily Allen. The chav look in a ballgown and trainers anyone? But I have to say even i'm impressed with the new campaign for Chanel's new A/W '10 ‘Coco Cocoon' line shot by Karl Lagerfeld which takes inspiration from Old Hollywood - with Lily doing a mean impression of Audrey! And pulling it off.

Is Lily finally becoming a lady? Time will tell...

A Sartorial Showcase

When news first came about of the first book of the fashion blog phenomenon that is The Sartorialist, the man himself, Scott Schuman, announced he wanted it to be 'a beautiful showcase for my images'.

Indeed, according to those in the know, it is - saying not only is it an inspiration but actually a good read too.

It's UK release date is September - can't wait!

Perfecto!

This September at Colette Paris sees the reinvention of the 'Perfecto' - otherwise known as the Biker Jacket, which is most commonly associated with first of all biker bad boys Marlon Brando and James Dean in the 50's but which has been about since 1928 when it was first introduced by Schott NYC.

Now the staple of any fashionista with an edge, including our very own Kate Moss and Alexa Chung, it is having a makeover with a host of new materials and interpretations courtesy of some of the most influential designers around including: Gareth Pugh; William Rast and Yves Saint Laurent for men with Balmain; Hussein Chalayan and Louise Gray amongst others for women.

Also available will be two limited edition pairs of shoes inspired by the Perfecto and designed by the original French ballet shoes company Repetto, which are exclusively at Colette from September.

Alexa in the Big Apple...

After stumbling upon Alexa's photo and hearing of her move to New York, I checked out her Twitter to see what the gossip was on the other side of the pond, in my favourite city. Turns out last night she was DJ-ing at a party hosted by Creation Recreation to celebrate their spring '10 collection at the Cooper Hotel penthouse with 180-degree view of Manhattan's skyline. Sounds good to me.

According to Refinery29 she ended up dancing the Twist with her friend, Mark Ronson's new girlfriend, Tennesse Thomas, before later handing over the decks to dance to Blur.

Now jealously checking out the photos!

I heart NYC

Vintage Alexa

I love this photo of Alexa I found on Twitter.

She says it herself, 'Film is rad. Digital sucks. Look it's the 1970's.'

Don't get me wrong, as much as I NEED a SLR more than anything right now, there is something so captivating about old photos. One of my favourite photographs is one of my dad in the 70's...if I could only find it!

The How to Guide to: The Sartorialist

This is brilliant. The girls over at Rerfinery29 certainly are cheeky but actually quite clever.

See if you can test it next time he's in town!

24 Hour Party People

It's the 80's. It's New York. It's all about the parties filled with jetsetters and club kids alike and this month Steven Meisel recreates the scene for Vogue Italia. Although the last few seasons have seen a lot of 80's references, there is something so vibrant and lighthearted and fresh about it.

Enjoy!
