Raf Simons for Jil Sander

One of my fave designers for the supposed simplicity of his collections hiding the impeccable skills of a designer who can produce collection after collection of perfect simplicity, superb quality and perfect tailoring, whilst always being fashion forward.

Autumn/Winter '09 is no different. A twist on the LBD and a beautiful fabric and a structured silhouette are some my favourite looks of the season.

London Fashion Week: Louise Goldin

With London Fashion Week in full swing, I was keeping an eye, as usual, on new designers, those whose creativity isn't stumped by the big financiers supporting them.

Someone I have particularly been watching as a former knitter is Louise Goldin, knitwear innovator who came to the world's attention as part of Central St. Martin's Graduate Show in 2005. For A/W '09 she opted for a mix of futuristic ideals with luxurious, innovative fabrics (a combination of innovative knits and leather) - which she herself worked on and knitted through as she describes, 'a long experimentation process...where I never knew whether it was going to work or not'.

The result, although all in black, was a success and has critics, buyers and editors more convinced of the designer's credentials as a designer with commercial capabilities as well as a fashion visionary. I like it!

A/W '09's First Big Trend: Cutouts

Having spotted a gorgeous versatile little number in Topshop today on my adventures, it reminded me instantly of Preen's Autumn/Winter '09 body-con cutout dress with mesh panelling - apparently a sign of the season's first big trend - cutouts. I shall be having one of those (Topshop not Preen unfortunately!)
